Manchester City Women’s Soccer Team Visits GESHA Coffee Co.

As part of the first-ever Perth International Football Cup, GESHA Coffee Co. had the incredible opportunity to host members of the Manchester City Women’s Soccer team at our Fremantle café.

When Western Australia Tourism reached out to see if we’d be interested in welcoming the team, we were thrilled. Known for our expertise in barista training, our Fremantle cafe was the perfect spot to introduce these world-class athletes to the art of coffee making during their visit to Perth.

Setting the Scene

For this special occasion, we transformed the back of our café into a dedicated space to host the players and their touring staff. Their morning began with a Fremantle walking tour with Two Feet & a Heartbeat, and concluded at GESHA Coffee Co. café for a unique coffee-making experience.

The team had heard a lot of positive hype about Perth’s coffee scene, particularly Fremantle’s coffee culture. Eager to see what all the excitement was about, they were keen to experience it for themselves. We were thrilled to offer them a unique experience with our skilled baristas, providing a taste of Perth’s best coffee (yes, we might be bias).

A Crash Course in Coffee Craft

Our talented Barista, Fanny, led the session, which was a condensed version of our usual Barista Training Essentials class. Typically, this class spans over three hours, but with only an hour to spare before the team headed off to an event at Crown Towers, Fanny delivered an intensive crash course on how to make the perfect brew.

The session featured Vivianne Miedema, Alex Greenwood, and Alanna Kennedy from our very own Matildas. Our café was buzzing with (friendly) rivalry. We could see their game faces on as they poured and swirled, each determined to outdo one another. The latte art showdown had plenty of laughs and some surprisingly impressive designs. It turns out their skills on the pitch translate pretty well to the espresso bar. Their enthusiasm was contagious.

We enjoyed getting to know the touring staff who accompanied the players, including corporate staff from the club, the media team from TEG Sports, and representatives from Western Australia Tourism. It’s moments like these that make our café a vibrant part of the Fremantle community. We’re proud to have shared our love for coffee with such an awesome group of people.
