A Decade of GESHA COFFEE Co.
Ten years ago, GESHA Coffee Co. was just an idea…a dream to bring our experience, passion and love for coffee into a product accessible to everyone. This inspired the creation of the brand, hard work and exceptional service enabling us to deliver high quality specialty coffee and connect people to an exceptional product and unforgettable experience.
What started with a small roaster behind a café counter in the Fremantle community has grown into a roasting company with a reputation for quality, service and workmanship that reaches far beyond our home base.
As we celebrate our 10-year milestone, we’ve taken a moment to look back at the journey – the humble beginnings, the challenges, the breakthroughs, and the incredible people we have built lasting relationships with who’ve been part of it all.
This timeline is not just our story, but a shared history with our team, clients and customers who’ve believed in us and supported us every step of the way.
Here’s how the last decade unfolded…
2015 – Where it all began
In January, we opened the doors to the GESHA Coffee Co. flagship café and roastery in Fremantle. It was here that our story began, roasting in-house and serving our very first customers.
This year also saw the launch of our signature blends that are still much loved today: The Fierce Bull, The Singing Rooster, The Queen’s Crown, and The Living Mermaid.
2016 – From blends to distribution
We expanded our offerings beyond blends with the launch of organic, decaf, and single origin coffees.
Meanwhile retail operations commenced, with our beans making their way onto the shelves of Perth independent retailers, and we took our first steps into wholesale distribution, supplying cafés and restaurants.
2017 – A new home for roasting
As demand grew, we moved roasting operations from the Fremantle café to our Bibra Lake roasting warehouse and head office. With new Italian machinery to support higher volumes, we were able to grow sustainably (and much quicker than we had anticipated!).
This year also saw the introduction of GESHA coffee capsules, making it easier for coffee lovers to enjoy our brews at home on their pod machines.
Our Fremantle café continued to thrive.
2018 – Going global
We launched our online store, allowing customers to purchase beans directly from us from the comfort of their home.
We also expanded internationally into the UAE and Kuwait, taking GESHA coffee beyond Australian borders.
2019 – Building capability
To support our wholesale clients and ensure consistent quality, we launched our In-house Technical Department, offering servicing and maintenance for coffee equipment. This was a huge and exciting step to see our team grow.
2020 – Resilience through challenges
We worked closely with our clients to help them weather the storm of an unexpected and challenging year (and years to follow). Despite the uncertainty of COVID-19, we continued to innovate, introducing our Black Label range.
2021 – Corporate coffee solutions
This year marked the launch of our Corporate Division, bringing workplace coffee solutions to businesses across WA.
We also introduced our refreshing Cold Brew range, offering something new for the warmer months.
2022 – Expanding our brand
GESHA extended beyond coffee with the launch of our active wear range and merchandise.
We also expanded internationally once again, commencing distribution in Singapore and landing in the shelves at the iconic Little Farms stores.
2023 – A year of growth
The retail side of the business flourished with expansion into Coles Local stores.
We launched our Barista Training Academy, supporting education and skills development, and began major renovations at Bibra Lake to create purpose-built zoneS.
We also launched our new blends to the market — Stormy Nights, The Holiday, and The Voyage.
2024 – A landmark year
Our Bibra Lake headquarters became a true hub for the coffee community with the opening of our new purpose-built zones, featuring a Sensory Lab, Espresso Bar, Retail Store, and Corporate Showroom. These renovations marked one of the most exciting milestones in our history.
We hosted WA’s Alternative Dairy Co. Barista Championship, which was a huge success.
2025 – Innovation continued
This year, we launched a range of brewing equipment and domestic machines, making it easier for people to brew café-quality coffee at home. We also introduced our exclusive Micro Batch as part of the Black Label range, celebrating highly-prized and limited beans that showcase the finest coffee characteristics from around the globe.
Looking ahead
As we mark 10 years of GESHA, we’re filled with gratitude for the community that has supported us. From our team and wholesale partners to our café customers and loyal online shoppers you are all part of our journey and legacy.
This milestone isn’t just ours; it belongs to everyone who has shared a cup of GESHA coffee over the past decade.
Here’s to the next chapter, continuing to roast, innovate, and share exceptional coffee with the world.
