Coffee + Treats = The ultimate easter weekend combo

Easter weekend is the perfect excuse to slow down, indulge a little, and have some fun with your coffee ritual. Whether you’re brewing at home or visiting friends and family, we’ve pulled together a few easy (and some a little more hands-on) ways to enjoy coffee with your favourite Easter treats.

1. Pop a mini egg in your espresso

Yes, it’s as simple (and delicious) as it sounds. Drop a chocolate mini egg into your freshly brewed espresso and watch the magic happen. It melts into your cup and adds just a hint of sweetness and cocoa richness to your shot.

2. Make a coffee in a jumbo chocolate egg

Use a hollow Easter egg as your cup. Carefully crack the top, pour in your shot of espresso, and then add textured milk. If you’re feeling confident, try your hand at latte art—yes, it can be done in an egg! It’s rich, creamy, and ridiculously satisfying.

3. Hot cross bun pairing (or dipping)

A classic Easter staple deserves a worthy pairing. Try a filter coffee with your hot cross bun, especially something with citrus or spice notes to match the bun’s flavour. Or get a little messy and dip your bun directly into your cappuccino or flat white. Trust us, it’s a game-changer.

4. Easter affogato

Grab a scoop (or two) of vanilla ice cream, pour a shot of hot espresso over the top, and sprinkle with crushed Easter egg pieces. Level it up even more and use a chocolate or caramel ice cream for a richer, dessert-like twist.

5. Hot cross bun ice cream sandwiches with spiced orange chocolate sauce

This one’s a crowd-pleaser for your Easter weekend. The best part? It pairs perfectly with coffee. Serving size is flexible, feel free to eyeball it, adjust for taste, or sneak in extra chocolate. No judgement here.

This dessert loves a bold, creamy coffee. We recommend a flat white or latte to balance the spice and citrus. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, try it with a cold brew, the mellow acidity and chocolate undertones will tie in beautifully.

Ingredients (serves 6)

  • 6 hot cross buns
  • 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream per sandwich
  • 200g dark chocolate
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 orange (juiced and zested)

Method:

  • Make the spiced orange chocolate sauce: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the dark chocolate and orange juice. Microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring in between, until the chocolate is fully melted. Add the cinnamon and orange zest, then stir to combine. Set aside.
  • Slice the hot cross buns in half and toast until lightly golden. This adds a little crisp texture to contrast the ice cream.
  • Place a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream between the toasted bun halves. Drizzle the warm orange chocolate sauce generously over the top.
  • Serve immediately. Maybe with a napkin. Or two.

6. Coffee egg martini

A decadent Easter take on the classic espresso martini. If you really want to get theatrical, serve it in a chocolate egg “cup” or drizzle the inside of your glass with chocolate syrup before pouring.

What you’ll need:

  • 30ml fresh espresso (strong and smooth, The Fierce Bull blend works beautifully)
  • 30ml vodka
  • 20ml coffee liqueur (like Kahlua or Mr Black)
  • 1 small Cadbury Dairy Milk mini egg (or any smooth chocolate mini egg)
  • Optional: 10ml crème de cacao for extra chocolatey richness
  • Ice
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder, to garnish

How to make it:

  • Brew your espresso and let it cool slightly so it doesn’t crack the shaker or melt the ice too quickly.
  • In your cocktail shaker, crush the mini egg slightly (or pop it in whole if you like a more subtle infusion).
  • Add your vodka, coffee liqueur, cooled espresso, and crème de cacao (if using) into the shaker.
  • Fill the shaker with ice, then shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds. You want it to be icy cold with a nice layer of foam from the espresso.
  • Double strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass.
  • Garnish with grated chocolate, a dusting of cocoa, or even a halved mini egg on the rim.
