Our Roasting Process
From sourcing the finest beans to perfecting each roast, our dedication to quality and consistency is undeniable. Every great cup of coffee begins with carefully selected green beans, sourced from trusted farms across the world. Once these beans arrive at our roasting warehouse here in Bibra Lake, Western Australia, the magic begins.
Let’s look at the steps involved in our roasting process
Sourcing the beans
We are committed to sourcing the highest quality specialty coffee beans. Each batch is carefully chosen based on its potential for unique flavour profiles, ensuring that our beans will deliver the highest standards of taste.
Roasting begins
The process begins by roasting small coffee samples in our Sensory Lab. Our Q Grader & Roaster monitors the roasting cycle, adjusting temperature, airflow, and timing to highlight the distinct characteristics of each bean.
Quality control and testing
After roasting, the beans undergo rigorous testing by our roasting and quality control team, along with our certified Q Grader. In our very own Sensory Lab, we conduct coffee cupping and testing to check the consistency and quality of every batch. This is a critical step in ensuring that the final product meets our high standards. Customers can even watch the action from the viewing window of the Sensory Lab.
Blending or single origin selection
Once the beans are tested and assessed, we decide whether they will be used in one of our signature blends or offered as a single-origin coffee. Our blends are crafted for balance, while our single-origin coffees showcase the unique flavours from their regions of origin. It is then that we begin to roast on our large roasting machine for large volumes.
Packaging and delivery
After testing and final approval, our coffee is packaged and prepared for delivery. We ensure each order is carefully packed to maintain freshness and quality, whether it’s for one of our valued retail customers or wholesale partners.
The Role of our Q Grader & Roaster
By definition, a Q Grader is a certified coffee expert who assesses, and grades coffee based on specific attributes like aroma, flavour, acidity, and body. But the role goes beyond just grading, here’s what GESHA Coffee Co.’s Q Grader & Roaster does:
Cupping and quality control
Every batch of coffee is cupped and tasted in our Sensory Lab. Our Q Grader & Roaster evaluates each coffee’s consistency and quality to ensure it meets our exacting standards. This hands-on process allows us to adjust as needed and guarantees the coffee we offer is of the highest quality.
Roast development and profiling
Our Q Grader & Roaster are also responsible for creating and managing the roast profiles of both our blends and single origins. By adjusting key factors like temperature, time, and airflow, they bring out the perfect balance of flavours for each coffee.
Consistency
Another crucial role is ensuring each batch matches the previous one in flavour and quality. This precise attention to detail ensures that every cup brewed from our coffee will have the same great taste.
Sustainability and traceability
Sustainability is incredibly important to us at GESHA Coffee Co. Our Q Grader & Roaster is dedicated to maintaining quality control throughout the roasting process, minimising waste and ensuring our beans are sustainably sourced and responsibly roasted.
Why it all matters
At GESHA Coffee Co., we go beyond simply roasting coffee. We ensure that each batch meets the highest standards of quality, consistency, and sustainability. With our expert Q Grader & Roaster overseeing every step of the process, we deliver exceptional coffee, whether it’s part of our signature blends or our single origin range.
From the moment the beans are sourced to the moment they are delivered to you, each step of the process is carefully executed to ensure the best possible outcome. Our commitment to quality and transparency ensures that every cup you brew represents the love and passion that goes into every batch.
